Yesterday was Human Rights Day and i was exercising my right to do f**k all so i missed the whole Twitter drama between DA leader Helen Zille and the ANC after she made a tweet referring to pupils from the Eastern Cape as ‘refugees’ coming to the Western Cape for a better education.
Here’s the tweet that the ANC is calling a ‘racist statement‘.
Needless to say that Twitter users in SA had a field day with that tweet and Helen’s habit of voicing her opinion on Twitter. Many critised Zille for her choice of words, but she defended her tweet saying to one user ‘Refugees are ppl who have to escape because their rights are violated. That describes E Cape pupils exactly.”
Leader of the ANC in the Western Cape, Marius Fransman and ANC spokesman, Jackson Mthembu both had some strong words for Zille.
“Fransman slammed Zille for racial stereotyping when she called children from Eastern Cape “refugees” on Twitter.
“When people protest the fact that more than double the number of [pupils] are forced into the classrooms intended for far less, the DA leader retaliates with the nerve to call the [pupils] Eastern Cape ‘refugees’ on Twitter,” said Fransman.
“Here Zille’s prejudice is exposed . her petticoat of bias is hanging out.”
ANC spokesman Jackson Mthembu also weighed in on Zille’s tweet.
“Helen Zille’s racist statement underpins the DA’s policy of exclusionism of blacks,” he said. “She will never say the same thing about whites who relocate from one area of the country to Western Cape,‘ [TimesLIVE]
Come now ANC people…you should by now know that playing the race card to deflect from the real issues doesn’t fly in the Western Cape. Folks here can see through your lame ass attempt to divert attention away from the fact that you f**ked up the EC good and proper.
And Helen..you are not getting off lightly on that ‘refugee’ statement either. I love your work, but you need to slow your roll a tad and hold off on those controversial tweets. Before you press send just take a look and ask yourself what would Juju do…if it’s something he’d say then best you don’t send it hey.
UPDATE: here’s Helen Zille and Jackson Mthembu on 567 Cape Talk this morning discussing the tweet.
